Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
